PRSI Eye Exam

If you have been working and paying PRSI you may be entitled to Optical Benefit , however , you must have a certain number of PRSI contributions paid to qualify.

All applicants must obtain approval in advance from DSFA ( Department of Social & Family Affairs )
Since January 2009 the allowances for Optical Benefit for PRSI patients have all but been removed by the preceding budget.

The DFSA no longer gives an allowance towards optical appliances ( Reading, Distance or Bifocal spectacles ) as they did previously.

However, they have retained the allowance towards the Eye Exam , which is generally allowable every two years for qualified individuals.

You can apply for the PRSI Optical Benefit in 2 ways:
  1. Call the practice on 01-8211612 with your National Insurance number and a few other details and we can get you pre-approved for a basic Eye Exam by calling the DFSA on your behalf.
  2. Fill in an application form , available from the practice , and wait for your Letter Of Approval to be sent to your home address. We are pleased to post the PRSI Optical Benefit Application form to you address , which must be sent Freepost to the department in Letterkenny.

Spouses or Partners of persons qualified for Optical Benefit , may also themselves be entitled Optical Benefit. This is subject to dependency conditions.

Should you require an application form, or if you have any queries, please call or e mail the practice, and we will be delighted to assist you .
